The ground-breaking ceremony for the second phase of the ‘Andermatt Central’ residential and commercial development took place today in Andermatt. By 2028, modern rental apartments and office space will be built right next to the railway station. Around 70 per cent of the 51 apartments will be let as primary residences. This will make a significant contribution to creating much-needed housing for local residents and employees.

The destination of Andermatt has developed dynamically in recent years. Andermatt Central 2 now represents a further building block in this development. As with the first phase, the project is being carried out by Andermatt Central AG, in which BVZ Holding AG – the parent company of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway – holds a 50 per cent stake, whilst Andermatt Swiss Alps AG and the Schmid Group each hold 25 per cent.

“With Andermatt Central 2, we are creating additional housing for the local population, staff and people who wish to live and work in Andermatt. At the same time, we are making a sustainable investment in a location that has developed exceptionally well in recent years. Central, more central, ‘Andermatt Central’
Thanks to its central location between the historic village centre of Andermatt and the Andermatt Reuss district, and its immediate proximity to the railway station, the Nätschen valley station and the area’s tourist and commercial facilities, the development benefits from excellent transport links and a highly attractive location. Particular emphasis is placed on sustainable heating and energy supply. To this end, the development relies on regional district heating fuelled by wood chips. Furthermore, the building is powered entirely by renewable electricity. The building envelope complies with the Minergie standard and contributes significantly to high energy efficiency.

Completion and commissioning of Andermatt Central 2 are scheduled for the end of 2028.
