The Innotour project KIMM closes a key gap in mobility in mountain regions: from June 2026, travellers will for the first time be able to plan and book public transport and on-demand services as a fully integrated, door-to-door travel chain. In addition, carsharing and bike-sharing services can be included in the travel planning and booked separately. The innovative solution is being implemented in the Andermatt holiday region and serves as a model for tourist-peripheral regions throughout Switzerland.

In mountain regions, mobility often does not end at the destination, but at a train station or a bus stop. Whilst public transport functions well in many Alpine regions, the last mile remains a challenge in many places. Relatively short operating hours, less frequent services and sub-regions that are only served seasonally or not at all increase the appeal of using one’s own car. This is precisely where the Innotour project ‘KIMM’ comes in: the combined, innovative and low-emission mobility concept links new and existing mobility services in the Gotthard region into an integrated travel chain.
Since 2023, KIMM has been working towards the goal of rethinking mobility in peripheral tourism regions and improving connections. In the Gotthard region, various services have been established to complement and integrate with existing public transport: on-demand shuttle buses, carsharing and bike-sharing. Until now, there has been a lack of digital integration between these services. The new booking platform closes this gap.

One journey, one booking

Users can combine a seamless door-to-door travel chain comprising public transport and the mybuxi on-demand service in a single booking. A service for which there is currently little equivalent in Switzerland. This innovation integrates the last mile directly into journey planning and, thanks to its integration with the local tourism platform, links it to regional services. This means, for example, that you can travel comfortably by train to Andermatt and then take the mybuxi right to the front door of your accommodation. Sponti-Car carsharing and PubliBike bike-sharing are also integrated into the travel planning process, complementing public transport and on-demand services to provide flexible local travel by bike or car for excursions beyond the Andermatt holiday region. For the booking process, however, users are currently redirected to their own systems via a link.
The solution deliberately avoids a new, standalone app, instead integrating into existing channels and platforms. This allows guests and locals to use the new features where they already plan their journeys today. No additional app download is required.
“With KIMM, we are demonstrating how innovative mobility can work in mountain regions: connected, user-friendly and tailored to the real needs of guests and locals,” says Daniel Zumoberhaus, Alpine Mobility. “The Gotthard region is thus becoming a real-world laboratory for mobility that is relevant beyond the region.”

Practical benefits for visitors and locals

The digital booking platform combines different modes of transport into a single journey. Users can optimise connections according to their preferences, for example by choosing the fastest or most convenient option. This creates a seamless mobility solution that links public transport with flexible options for the last mile.
This development is crucial for tourist regions. Those arriving without their own car should also be able to get around easily and flexibly once they are there. This means that daily planning now encompasses not only activities but also mobility. At the same time, such a service enhances the region’s appeal, reduces dependence on private motorised transport and supports more sustainable forms of mobility.
“The last-mile challenge affects not only the Gotthard region but many Alpine and peripheral areas in Switzerland,” says Daniel Zumoberhaus. “KIMM demonstrates how existing services can be meaningfully linked without the need to build entirely new systems.”

Bookable from June 2026

The new digital access is available with immediate effect. Initially, it can be accessed via alpine-mobility.ch, the Andermatt-Urserntal Tourism destination website, or via mybuxi, amongst other channels. In the future, the solution may also be integrated into other channels, such as the websites of hotels, tourism partners or other regional platforms.
KIMM is being implemented in collaboration with partners Andermatt Swiss Alps AG, mybuxi Schweiz AG, Schweizerische Südostbahn AG, Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn AG and Andermatt-Urserntal Tourismus GmbH, and is closely embedded in the mobility and tourism development of the Gotthard region. The project is supported by Innotour, the funding instrument of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Additionally, the project is supported by the Albert Köchlin Foundation as part of the ‘clever unterwegs’ funding instrument in the ‘real-world laboratory’ category, as well as by the municipality of Andermatt.
